Youth as resources. That's the underlying approach to this successful drug and violence prevention program for youth in high school. America's PRIDE team members reach out to their peers and community with an assertive, drug-free message. They organize drug-free, fun activities. Through example and leadership, they help others to be drug-free.
Middle school youth participate in Club PRIDE programs to learn and practice positive peer power, teamwork and effective communication skills. They spread a message of drug & violence free life choices. They encourage their peers to take a drug-free pledge and plan fun activities to promote drug-free lifestyles.
Education is key to equipping young minds with the ability to make healthy choices. PRIDE Pals, an adventure-based elementary program, teaches students the benefits of living drug & violence free. Designed for grades K-4, the program uses puppetry and classroom activities to enliven young hearts with resolve for a drug-free life.
A growing network of PRIDE Parent Action Teams provides support to local PRIDE youth teams and others in their communities. The PRIDE Youth Programs network includes more than 100,000 community volunteers engaged in preventing drug use. For parents, PRIDE programs offer some "peace of mind." Parents instinctively want to protect their young, especially during the potentially dangerous teen years. PRIDE Youth Programs respects each parent's role as nurturer and leader. It believes in every parent's right to maintain high standards within the family. PRIDE Parent Training Programs have been implemented in more than 1,000 sites in the United States and abroad.
Comprehensive training curricula are the cornerstone for effective PRIDE youth programs. Weekend retreats, day-long and specialized trainings provide initial and ongoing assistance in organizing youth-led teams. The issues facing today's youth are complex and PRIDE's trainers respond with discussions and solutions to timely topics. Participants leave every training with knowledge, materials and an action plan to take a stand against drug abuse in their community.
